A residential mailing list allows a business to directly target interested consumers for their products and services. The company can send its marketing and promotional material directly to the home with personalized communications in order to generate a better response. Many lists can also be specialized to fit a business’ desired niche audience or can use as many features as possible to catch as many consumers as possible.

The residential mailing list lets a company select which demographic set will receive its marketing materials. The business can choose from options such as age group, credit card information, dwelling status (homeowner or renter), home value, income, length of residency, marital status, number of people in the household and previous responsiveness to mail offers. There are many other options such as this as well as other information like birth date, family relationships and phone numbers.

These lists may use any of this information in combination or narrow down lists to specific geographic regions, special interests or hobbies and even new homeowners or parents. For instance, businesses looking for lists to target teenagers may want to look at a combination of age group, number of people in the household and income in order to find a niche that will most likely have a disposable income and this particular set of impulse buyers. Age group and ethnicity may be factors a business needs for special products and services.

The right list can also let a company create special campaigns such as a saturation mailing, which limits mailings within a specified radius of a zip code. However, these mailings are labeled occupant or resident, but they have a high rate of deliverability. Saturation is also cost effective as the list is automatically pre-sorted and has the lowest postage rates.

Before any residential mailing campaign begins, all addresses should be verified for accuracy. A good service will compile its lists from the US Census Bureau and USPS and have rural route addresses, star route addresses and post office boxes in addition to street addresses. It will also update this list on a regular basis and deliver lists to clients in a timely manner.
